Small Businesses Are the Majority. Their Software Should Be Built for Them
In the United States alone there are about 34.8 million small businesses, yet much business software is designed for large organizations.

A very large group
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration's Office of Advocacy, the United States had about 34.8 million small businesses in its 2024 data, and small businesses employed 45.9 percent of private-sector workers, roughly 59 million people. Small businesses are not a niche market. They are a large part of the economy.
A mismatch
Much business software is designed with large organizations in mind: complex set-up, per-seat licences, long implementation projects and dedicated administrators. A five-person business rarely has the time or budget for that. The result is that many small teams stay with spreadsheets and manual routines, not because they prefer them, but because the alternatives are too heavy.
What small teams need
Software for small teams should be quick to start, clear to read, affordable, and honest about what it does. It should handle the two or three jobs that matter most, such as knowing true profit, keeping stock accurate and getting an order to the kitchen, and do them well, without unnecessary complexity.
